Romans 3:22 describes “the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe,” and 2 Corinthians 5:21 explains the trade at the heart of the cross: “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” First Corinthians 1:30 says Christ Himself “became to us...righteousness,” and Philippians 3:9 makes clear this righteousness is “not...my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ.” You stand before God as righteous, not merely “not guilty.”

1 Corinthians 6:11 · NASB1995The moment you believed, God set you apart as holy in His sight. First Corinthians 1:30 lists “sanctification” alongside righteousness and redemption as something Christ already “became to us,” and 1 Corinthians 6:11 places it in the same breath as being washed and justified — a settled position, secured “in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,” distinct from the day-by-day growth in holiness that follows.

Hebrews 10:14 · NASB1995Under the old covenant, sacrifices had to be offered again and again because they could never fully deal with sin. Hebrews 10:14 says Christ’s sacrifice did what no repeated offering ever could: “by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.” No further payment is owed, and none is coming due.

1 Peter 2:5 · NASB1995God’s acceptance of you isn’t based on your own merit at all. Ephesians 1:6 says grace was “freely bestowed on us in the Beloved” — the acceptance is His Son’s, and you share in it only because you are “in” Him. First Peter 2:5 pictures you as a living stone being built into a spiritual house, “to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” — every approach you make to God travels through Christ’s own acceptability, not yours.

Colossians 1:12 · NASB1995You didn’t have to make yourself fit for what God has for you. Colossians 1:12 gives thanks to “the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.” He is the one who did the qualifying — the credential is His work, not your résumé.
