Galatians 2:20 · NASB1995Romans 6:6 states it as a completed fact: “our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin.” This isn’t something you have to accomplish; it already happened at the cross. Paul makes it intensely personal in Galatians 2:20 — “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” — and grounds the whole thing not in effort but “faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

1 Peter 2:24 · NASB1995Because you died with Him, sin’s ownership over you as a master has been broken. “If we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him” (Rom. 6:8) — death and resurrection are a package, never one without the other. Peter connects the purpose directly to the cross: Christ bore your sins in His body “so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness” (1 Pet. 2:24). Sin can still tempt you, but it no longer owns you.

Colossians 2:12 · NASB1995Burial marks a death as final and complete. Romans 6:4 pictures baptism as burial “into death,” with no ambiguity left about whether the old life is really over. Colossians 2:12 adds that this burial “in baptism” is inseparable from being “raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead” — there’s no going back to the old life; that chapter is closed for good.
