33 Truths at Salvation for Every Believer

A Gift from the Father to Christ

Key Verse: John 10:29  ·  NASB1995

Key Verse

“My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”

John 10:29

In one of the most tender pictures in Scripture, Jesus speaks of believers as a gift the Father gave Him — treasured, not merely tolerated, and held by a grip nothing can break.

Also See

“I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.”

John 17:6 · NASB1995

“I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.”

John 17:11-12 · NASB1995

“I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word;”

John 17:20 · NASB1995

Jesus speaks of “the men whom You gave Me out of the world...they were Yours and You gave them to Me” (John 17:6). He then prays the Father would “keep them in Your name” (John 17:11-12), and extends that same prayer to everyone who would ever believe through the apostles’ word (John 17:20). John 10:29 explains why that keeping is certain: “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” You are treasured, not merely tolerated.

Reflect

  1. How does it change how safe you feel to know you were given to Christ by the Father Himself, rather than having found your own way to Him?
